Yard Waste

Yard waste CollectionYard waste includes grass, leaves, tree trimming debris, and any other plant material. Yard waste is a valuable resource when applied to your landscape. Mulching grass clippings and leaves back into your lawn will provide nutrients to your yard. Another possibility is to compost yard waste on your property. Information on composting is available at Village Hall and at Public Works. Yard waste is collected on your regular pick-up day from April 1 through December 15. You may put yard waste in a 33-gallon brown Kraft brown paper bag or an unlined 33-gallon rigid container. Brush should be packaged in bundles no more than four feet in length and two feet in diameter. Each bundle must have a yard waste sticker attached and cannot weigh over 50 pounds. See the below for information on the Village's Brush Chipping Program.
Brush Drop-off ProgramThe Public Works Department and the Park District operate a site on 71st Street, just west of Woodridge Drive, where residents may drop off their brush. The site is open from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on the second Saturday of each month, from May through October. The price is $5 for the first carload ($3 for same-day returning car) and $10 per pickup truck, van, or trailer. The Village site does not require bundling, has no length requirement, and can accept branches up to 8” in diameter. Only branches accepted; no leaves or grass clippings. Proof of residency is required. Chips generated by this program are made available to residents free of charge at the Woodridge Dr. site throughout the growing season.
Free Bagged Leaf Collection in November The Village and Groot offer a free, bagged leaf collection program that occurs on your first six regular collection days during November and December, starting on Friday, November 1 ending on December 12.

This program is available to all single-family residences within the Village's incorporated boundaries.  During the program, an unlimited number of leaves may be placed in biodegradable paper bags and brought out to the curb for collection without stickers. The bags may be a maximum of 30 gallons in capacity and weigh up to 50 pounds. The bags may contain only leaves. Groot will not pick up leaf bags with comingled landscape waste, such as sod, brush, or grass clippings.
