Woodridge Warhol: Art Exhibit & Lecture

Woodridge Warhol (1)
Join the Village of Woodridge, the Woodridge Public Library, the College of DuPage, the McAninch Arts Center at College of DuPage, and the Cleve Carney Museum of Art for the #warhol2023 Pop Art Challenge! Woodridge is 1 of 18 communities participating in the Challenge which will showcase four inspiring members of our community in Andy Warhol styled art:

  • Mayor William F. Murphy served the Village of Woodridge for more than 50 years, including 32 years as Mayor, eight years as a Trustee, and 34 years as a highly respected Principal and Assistant Superintendent. William F. Murphy School is named in the former mayor’s honor.
  • Anne Banks is a former Village Trustee, founding non-profit JANO, Janes Avenue Neighborhood Outreach, to serve children, teens, seniors, and families in her Woodridge neighborhood. Connecting neighbors to crucial resources, building community, and ensuring opportunities for youth through G.R.I.T. is JANO’s—and Anne’s—core mission.
  • Fred Hohnke was the Woodridge Park District President for 33 years. Fred improved the quality of life for generations of Woodridge residents. He served selflessly on local, state and national park associations, advancing recreational opportunities through special events, open space preservation, and development of parks and recreational facilities.
  • Barbara Schmith, together with her husband Roger, founded West Suburban Community Pantry in 1992. Originally serving only Woodridge residents, the pantry now distributes 2,000,000 pounds of food every year to over 65,000 persons in need in DuPage and Will Counties.
Stick around after checking out the art exhibit to learn more about the life and art of Andy Warhol! Diana Martinez, Executive Director of Warhol: Portfolios in Pop and Director of the McAninch Arts Center will share the background of Andy Warhol and his journey as a first-generation immigrant from Carpatho-Rusyn roots, to living in industrial tenements in the outskirts of Pittsburgh, to an Iconic Superstar in NYC. Martinez will explain his prolific journey and how he manifested the American Dream. In addition, she will give you an inside sneak peek into the blockbuster Warhol exhibition coming this summer to the McAninch Arts Center and Cleve Carney Museum of ART.
