LAWRENCE D. WHITMAN was the Clinical Director of Children and Family Services 
for Habilitative Systems, Inc., the largest community-based social service agency on the 
west side of Chicago.  His duties include the management, implementation and 
budgetary responsibility for at least 15 program initiatives that serve children and families on 
the west and south sides of Chicago..

Prior to serving the U.S. Department of Education, Mr. Whitman was the Associate
Director of the Midwest Regional Center for Drug-Free Schools and Communities.  His
office coordinated all regional center services for Michigan, Indiana, and Illinois.  Those
services include providing training, technical assistance, and consultation for schools,
community-based agencies, faith communities, and law enforcement.  

Mr. Whitman has provided a number of trainings and presentations focusing on such topics as youth violence and prevention, gang awareness, conflict resolution, media awareness, and
urban youth issues.  He has also worked in mental health and substance abuse prevention and 
treatment in both institutional and community-based settings that serve youth and their 
families.  Mr. Whitman has also served as President/CEO of his own consulting firm Lawrence 
D. Whitman and Associates since 1985.  He has a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Master of Arts in Theological Studies.  He also has graduate training in the field of Clinical Psychology.
